The Department of Radiology, The Methodist Hospital Research Institute, Houston (TMHRI), Texas, is seeking a nuclear pharmacist and a cyclotron engineer.

TMHRI was founded in 2004 for the sole purpose of supporting, managing, and conducting clinical and translational research for the advancement of patient care. The nuclear pharmacist will be involved in preparing and dispensing routine radiopharmaceuticals including F-18 FDG, and ensuring pharmacy and radiation safety regulations. The preferred candidate should be a registered pharmacist with two years experience as a nuclear pharmacist. The cyclotron engineer will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cyclotron and related radiochemistry lab equipment. A bachelor degree in physics, electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering is required. Training specific to cyclotron operations, maintenance and radiation safety will be provided.

PHARMACIST
The Pharmacist is responsible for the preparation of nuclear pharmaceuticals in accordance with prescriptions and customer orders and ensures compliance with corporate, state and federal regulations for the safe handling and security of radioactive and biohazardous materials.  The Pharmacist also provides supervision for pharmacy staff guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies.
 
Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in nuclear pharmaceuticals, Master’s Degree preferred; “Authorized User” of radioactive materials on the pharmacy’s radioactive materials license required; and minimum of two years experience as a nuclear pharmacist preferred. 
 
HEALTH PHYSICIST
The Health Physicist is responsible for assuring the use of radioactive materials is performed in accordance with corporate policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and develops and implements radiation safety programs associated with nuclear pharmacy and cyclotron operations.
 
Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in nuclear engineering, health physics, radiological health, or similar, or an Associates Degree in physical or biological science with at least 10 years experience in health or medical physics position required; Minimum of five years experience in radiation safety or health/medical physics with nuclear pharmacy or nuclear medicine experience required; Previous RSO responsibilities and experience working with regulatory agencies required; Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Certified Industrial Hygenist (CIH) certification preferred.
